Huawei MatePad Edge—Large Screen, PC-Level Performance, and a New HarmonyOS 2-in-1 Experience

Huawei is launching its Mate 80 Series on November 25th this year. At the same event, the company will introduce another big surprise alongside the Mate X7 foldable—the Huawei MatePad Edge, which is already generating buzz ahead of its launch.

Renowned industry leaker Digital Chat Station has revealed some initial details about this tablet, making it clear that Huawei is preparing to offer not just a tablet, but a complete 2-in-1 computing experience.

The MatePad Edge is being described as an “Ultra-Flagship HarmonyOS 2-in-1 Device.” This means it won't just be a large-screen tablet but a device that offers a seamless experience in both tablet and PC modes.

First, let's talk about the screen. It will feature a 14.2-inch super-large Soft-Light display, making it easy on the eyes when viewing or reading content for extended periods. This size gives it a mini-laptop-like workspace.

Huawei has taken a big step forward in the performance department. The MatePad Edge features the Kirin 9 PC-grade chip, which the company is designing to deliver laptop-level processing.

Its top model will come with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage—enough for even pro-level apps, multi-window, and high-load workloads. The tablet also features an active cooling fan, which is rare in the tablet category.

Keyboard support is also quite interesting. Huawei's Xingyue Floating Keyboard offers multi-angle hovering, providing a laptop-like typing experience with 1.8 mm key travel. It also comes with a FreeTouch pressure-sensitive trackpad. Notably, the keyboard itself includes a 65W charging port, allowing for simultaneous tablet charging and desktop work.

The biggest feature is instant switching between PC Mode and Tablet Mode. This makes the MatePad Edge the first true HarmonyOS 2-in-1 device.

Pricing details are not yet available, but the launch is scheduled for November 25th, where Huawei may position the device as a new computing category.
