Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 series is once again in the news, and this time, the reason is the company's changed strategy. According to the latest leak, Samsung has changed the entire design plan for the S26 at the last minute.
Initially, the company focused on making the phone extremely slim—approximately 6.9 mm thick—and a 4,900 mAh battery was planned. However, considering the price of the iPhone 17, Samsung has changed direction.
Apple has priced the base model of the iPhone 17 at $799, and to match this, Samsung has also priced the S26 at the same level. This means that specifications had to be altered to reduce the phone's cost. This is why the company has abandoned the "slimness-first" approach and focused on "cost reduction."
According to the leak, Samsung has adopted a two-track strategy for the S26 series. The base model will be completely price-focused, while the S26 Plus will aim to strike a balance between performance and price. The Ultra model will offer higher-end features that will distinguish it from the other two models.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra will include Samsung Display's Flex Magic Pixel technology. This will allow users to directly set privacy mode without the need for an additional screen protector. This feature is considered a major change in next year's privacy-focused display technology.
Now let's talk about the design and battery of the series. The Galaxy S26 is said to be approximately 6.96 mm thick, while the S26+ will be approximately 7.3 mm. The Ultra variant will come with a thickness of 8.1 mm, which is slightly thinner than the previous model (S25 Ultra—8.2mm).
The change in battery capacity is obvious—previously the Ultra had larger battery plans, but the updated figures are slightly different:
The S26 and S26+ both have 4,900 mAh batteries, while the S26 Ultra is expected to have a 5,000 mAh battery.
This information is just a leak; Samsung hasn't officially confirmed it yet.
