Samsung is preparing to launch its highly anticipated flagship series, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, in the coming months. The changes to the camera department, while seemingly small, are significant.
First, let's talk about the front camera design—according to recent leaks, the Galaxy S26 Ultra's front cutout will be larger than before. While the S25 Ultra's cutout was 2.5 mm, it has now been increased to 4 mm, making it the largest cutout in Samsung's Ultra series. Interestingly, the camera sensor will remain the same 12MP Sony IMX874.
So, the question arises: why the larger cutout? According to reports, Samsung has made this change to increase the FOV (Field of View)—the camera's viewing angle has now increased from 85° to 90°, allowing selfies to capture more of the background. Although the larger camera hole may slightly impact the display's appearance, Samsung has described it as part of its slimmer design philosophy.
On the back, the S26 Ultra's camera system has received a slight but smart upgrade. The main sensor remains the 200MP HP2, but it's paired with an f/1.4 aperture and a 24mm focal length, improving low-light photography by 48%. It's accompanied by 50MP 5x telephoto (f/2.9) and 50MP ultrawide (f/1.9) sensors. There was some confusion regarding the 3x telephoto lens, but now it's clear that it will come with a 10MP sensor.
Video recording has also received significant improvements. Samsung has introduced its new APV video codec, which is similar to Apple's ProRes, meaning video quality will be better and file sizes will be smaller. Additionally, users will now have access to five preset LUT color grading styles, giving videos a professional touch.
Speaking of pricing, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to start at $1,299 (approximately ₹108,000).
Overall, the S26 Ultra doesn't have major changes to its camera hardware, but software and design upgrades lead to a better photography experience.
