Samsung recently introduced its first AI-based XR headset—the Galaxy XR. This device isn't just a headset but a platform that brings together artificial intelligence, 3D displays, and Android XR to deliver a completely new experience.
The company developed it in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, making it a step that sets the tone for the future of XR technology.
Design and Build Quality
The Galaxy XR's design is striking. Its front panel is made of metal and curved glass, providing a premium finish. Inside, it's equipped with numerous sensors and cameras that track user movement and gaze.
It's lightweight to ensure comfortable wearing even for extended periods. It also comes with an external battery unit, which provides approximately two and a half hours of continuous use.

Display and Performance
Samsung has equipped it with a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, which provides fast and smooth performance. The device features 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Its highlight feature is its dual 4.3K Micro-OLED display, which offers excellent visual clarity, a 109° field of view, and 95% DCI-P3 color accuracy. The display has a refresh rate of 72 Hz, which can be increased to 90 Hz if needed.
AI and Eye Tracking Technology
The Galaxy XR's most notable feature is its AI integration and eye-tracking system. It features four eye-tracking cameras and iris recognition, allowing users to control the device with just eye movements. Additionally, it features a depth sensor and high-resolution pass-through cameras, ensuring seamless transitions between the virtual and real worlds.
Software and Features
The device runs on the Android XR platform with Google Gemini AI built-in. Users can interact with it through voice, gestures, and visuals. The 3D experience in apps like Google Maps, YouTube, and Photos makes it even more special. It adds a new dimension to everything—watching videos, gaming, or creative work.
Pricing and Availability
The Galaxy XR starts at $1,800 (approximately ₹1.50 lakh) and is currently available in the US and South Korea. Early buyers are also getting an Explorer Pack, which includes premium XR content.
Samsung's move amply illustrates that technology will transcend beyond the confines of the mobile screen in the future. With the Galaxy XR, the combination of AI, 3D, and immersive reality is giving us a glimpse into a digital world where the line between imagination and reality is gradually blurring.
