Smartphone camera technology is constantly advancing, and OmniVision is about to usher in a new era. The company is preparing to introduce its new 200MP camera sensor, the "OV52A." This sensor, specifically designed for flagship smartphones, could set a new direction for mobile photography in the future.

Design and Technology
The OV52A sensor measures 1/1.28 inch, making it large and capable of capturing light. Its 0.61 micron pixel size ensures image detail is maintained despite the small pixels. This sensor utilizes 2×2 RMSC (RGB Merge Smart Capture) technology, which helps deliver better results in low-light photography.
According to the company, this sensor can be used as both a main camera and a telephoto camera. This means that upcoming flagship smartphones could feature up to two 200MP camera lenses in a single device—one as the main camera and the other as a zoom lens.
Domestic Technology
A key feature of the OV52A is that it is developed entirely using domestic technology. This means that OmniVision no longer relies on foreign sensor brands like Sony or Samsung but is instead establishing its own high-end production in China.
Launch and Production Updates
According to reports, mass production of this sensor will begin in the first half of next year. This means that some major smartphone brands could launch their new flagship models with it in the early months of 2026. While it's not yet clear which brand will launch it first, names like Vivo, Oppo, or Realme are being discussed.
