Apple is working on its next flagship iPhone 18 series, which could launch in the fall of 2026. But ahead of the launch, a major update has emerged regarding the series' camera. According to the latest report,iPhone 18 Pro—New Variable Aperture Camera Feature Revealed in Leaked Report
Apple is introducing a completely new variable aperture camera system in its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models, something never seen before in any iPhone.
The ETNews report claims that this new camera system will replace the main wide-angle lens and will also include ultra-wide and telephoto cameras. This variable aperture technology allows the camera to automatically adjust to lighting conditions.
This means that if you're taking photos in low light, the camera's aperture will automatically open to allow more light to reach the sensor, while in brighter environments, it will automatically close to prevent overexposing photos.
This feature will not only help with low-light photography but will also give users better control over depth of field, allowing for more precise adjustments to background blur and subject focus.
The report also states that Apple is working with companies like LG Innotech and Foxconn to develop this new camera technology. The camera's actuator parts will be manufactured by Chinese companies Luxshare ICT and Sunny Optical.
It's worth noting that Apple has never used a variable aperture in previous iPhone models. From the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 17 Pro, all phones featured a fixed aperture of ƒ/1.78, which remains open.
Interestingly, Samsung introduced a variable aperture camera in its Galaxy S9 and S10 models in 2018, but later removed it due to increased thickness and cost.
According to experts, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could be launched alongside the iPhone Air 2 and Apple's first foldable iPhone. If this report proves accurate, the iPhone 18 series will be the biggest upgrade in photography to date.
