Apple is preparing to make major changes to its iPhone lineup in the coming years. According to recent reports, the company plans to not only provide more memory in the upcoming iPhone 18 series but may also add full 5G satellite internet support for the first time. If this proves true, the iPhone 18 will be the most advanced iPhone yet.
According to reports, the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and foldable iPhone models could feature up to 12 GB of RAM, which would be approximately 50% more than the current iPhone 17 series. This increase is primarily being made with an eye on on-device AI processing and performance.
Apple has reportedly placed an order with Samsung to increase its supply of LPDDR5X RAM chips. Discussions are also underway with companies like SK Hynix and Micron regarding the supply of additional memory.
Design-wise, the iPhone 18 series is expected to feature premium aluminum bodies and new color variants. While not much information has been revealed about the design, it's likely that Apple will introduce a new form factor along with a foldable iPhone model.
Now, let's talk about the most interesting update—full 5G satellite internet support. According to a report by The Information, Apple plans to release iPhones by 2026 that can connect directly to satellite networks for internet access. This means that future iPhones will be able to access the internet even in remote areas without a Starlink dish or Wi-Fi network.
Currently, satellite support on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 is limited to features like Emergency SOS, Find My, and Roadside Assistance. However, the iPhone 18 might fully enable this technology.
