OnePlus has launched its new flagship, the OnePlus 15, globally, and with it, the company has made several significant changes to the design, camera, and chipset. The phone is extremely light and slim, and its glass finish on the back feels quite premium.
The display features a 6.82-inch AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 1.5K resolution. OnePlus has strengthened the frame this time around to improve the phone's grip and build over time.
Now, let's get to the main point—the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 overheating test, which has been in the news for the past few days. Max Tech (Youtuber) put the OnePlus 15 through a stress test with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The OnePlus 15 performed well in initial benchmarks, but the phone's temperature spiked rapidly during the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress test.
After 8 minutes, the phone's temperature reached 52°C, and the app crashed during the test. To prevent overheating, the phone automatically turned off features like the hotspot and flashlight, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max completed the test without any issues.
The thermal camera footage also showed that the OnePlus 15's heat wasn't evenly distributed across its entire surface, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max had a more balanced heat distribution.
The good news, however, is that this overheating was only visible in the extreme stress test. Throughout the rest of the video, the OnePlus 15 performed steadily in gaming, and temperatures didn't spike significantly. Many users on Reddit reported experiencing no major issues during daily use. OnePlus has also stated that thermal management will be further improved in an upcoming update.
